John
4:1-30 Jesus meets the Samaritan woman near Jacob’s well. Jesus had to go
Galilee and he had to go through Samaria cause of some need that was there.
Jesus could have passed by to Galilee through some other way if he wanted to but
He chose to go through Samaria. Jesus came to Jacob’s well and He sat there because
He was tired and it was mid afternoon. The sun was scorching hot and the earth
was dry. The land was also thirsty for the coolness of water.
Vs7 a
woman of Samaria came to draw water there. She came in the heat of the mid
afternoon. When no one would want to come out but would love to stay in the
cool.
a. Jesus
broke the traditions
By
Jesus asking water to Samaritan woman He broke the traditions and the
divisions. He broke the differences of class, creed and the divisions of the
rich and poor, the high & low.
b. Thirst
Quenching water
Water
is to quench the thirst and to satisfy the dryness. The water that we drink can
quench the thirst only for a period. This world and the things of this world
can give us only momentary satisfaction. The water that Jesus gave had not only
quenched the thirst but also gave everlasting life. The presence of God would
increase in us and become a well within us. When we seek God’s presence He
takes us to a level where people would come to us seeking the source of this
presence and how we got it.
